Commander's Message, July -  August 2008

Members all:

The annual Department of Maryland Convention held at the Princess Royale in Ocean City turned out to be a success and the post members, as well as the men's and ladies auxiliaries had a good time.  On behalf of all who attended, we deeply thank you for your dedicated hard work in ensuring we had good food--good cheer.  We received a very nice award for the work of our past deceased Service Officer, "Pete" Frankel--a well deserved plaque and certificate for his hard work as our Post Service Officer.  The Post was recognized as an "All State Post" together with the commander and the quartermaster.

The incoming National Commander-in-Chief Glen Gardner from the state of Texas is coming forth with many changes to make the Veterans of Foreign Wars more adaptable to our young soldiers and their families involved in the war in Iraq and Afghanistan which will also help the Department of Maryland and our Posts.  You are strongly encouraged to follow up on all the information that will be mailed to you in the following months -- especially after the Annual National Convention which will be held in Orlando, Florida from August 16--21, 2008.  Come on out to Orlando and enjoy the National Convention and at the same time have a well-deserved vacation.

A Strong Reminder to Get Your Tickets for the Annual Crab Feast to be held on the 16th of August 2008 at $35.00 each.  We guarantee it will be a great one!

Words are not enough to thank all those at VFW Post 2562 for all your efforts in making it possible for the post improvements which have been accomplished and there are more to come.

The summer is in full swing--come on out and enjoy a refreshment in our open air driveway that has ample seating.  If you come to visit with us you might enjoy a hot dog or hamburger cooked in the outside grill,

Stay healthy, have fun and be safe

"Stay" is a charming word in a friend's vocabulary."         Amos B. Walcott
